Q: What are the spiritual and academic advantages of having my student attend and graduate from Shoreland?
A: On average, 75% of our graduates advance to higher education. 15% go on to technical schools. Some enter the military or go directly into the work field. No matter what their calling, our students have received a sound, Christian, highly regarded education at Shoreland Lutheran High. We have had National Merit Scholarship Award winners as well as other scholarship winners both academic and athletic.
Q: How can my student and I find out more about life at Shoreland?
A: We invite
grade school students to come to our school and experience life as a student for
a day with our "Pacer for a Day" program. Pacer for a Day takes place for the
5th and 6th graders in January, and for 7th and 8th graders in October or
November. Please talk to your grade school principal, your pastor, or our school office
for more information. We also invite the parents of 7th and 8th grade students to a brunch in January, which gives them the opportunity to tour the school, meet our staff and other parents, and ask questions. Again, please accept our invitation and call the school office for details. Finally, you are welcome to come at any time for a tour and visit of our facility.
Q: Does Shoreland offer a busing program for its students?
A: If your student lives within either the Racine or the Kenosha Unified School District, they will be bused to and from Shoreland by their bus system. If you live outside those districts, Shoreland has its own set of buses that run routes throughout our Federation. Car pools are also a possibility.
For more information on busing contact Mr. Dale Stelter at SLHS extension 116.
Q: What does “Federation" mean?
A: The 24 WELS churches in our area that support Shoreland Lutheran High with their prayers and offerings make up our Federation. A church belonging to the Federation is a Federation congregation.
Q: Why do I have to pay tuition to send my child to Shoreland?
A: It costs roughly $6,400 to educate a student at Shoreland. Our tuition is a part of that cost. The rest of the cost for our school's budget is covered by offerings from the Federation congregations that support us and by private donations.
Q: What is included with tuition?
A: Tuition includes all book fees, lab fees, report cards, etc. There is a reasonable fee for athletic participation
and technology use. A family rate limit is in place.
Q: How is tuition to be paid?
A: Tuition payments are made on an automatic withdrawal system (checking/savings/credit card/other account) through the FACTS tuition management service. Payments can be adjusted to suit income, availablity and takes hardship into consideration. Tuition can also be paid in full at registration.
Q: How can I get a break on tuition?
A: Financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. Shoreland
gives out thousands of dollars in financial aid each year. Also, you can receive
credit for tuition through our SCRIP programs. Any family member, neighbor, relative, or friend can participate and designate your student as the recipient of their “profit.”
Q: How do I apply for financial aid?
A: Call the office to request an application.
Q: How can we save for tuition?
A: Each time you purchase a certificate or debit card from our SCRIP program for
use at your favorite gas station, grocery store, fast food restaurant,
department store, or for a movie rental, you will earn tuition credit for your
family. We keep your “profit” in a special bank account until your child becomes
a Pacer. Tuition credit can be gained all through your Pacer’s school years.
Please call the SCRIP office at SLHS extension 139 for further details.
