When Kate Proeber's youngest of four
children was two months old she began
taking classes at the University of
Wisconsin-Parkside. She graduated from
Parkside with a BS in Education and
Psychology in the spring of 1974. That
fall she accepted the Call to teach
fourth grade at Zion Lutheran in South
Milwaukee when that youngest child
was in first grade. After four years at
Zion, she accepted a Call to teach
grades one through three at St. John's
Oak Creek where she is still a member.
In 1986, the year that same youngest
child, Holly Bahr graduated from SLHS,
Mrs. Proeber accepted the Call to be the
art teacher at Shoreland. To date
she has earned 94 credits in art, nearly
double the number required for an art
degree. She is a member of the Racine
Art Guild where she served as president
for three years. Mrs. Proeber is an
active artist and currently has a studio
at the DeKoven Center in Racine.
In addition to art, Mrs. Proeber teaches
Pre-English, works with the Keep Current
Program, and teaches the class that
publishes Shoreland's yearbook
Reflections. She advises the Art
Club which produces the annual Shoreland
Character Snowman.
Her interests other than art include,
gardening, reading, writing, camping,
traveling, and watching her
grandchildren grow.
